Related Resources: For State Employees: Hurricane Katrina has taken a devastating toll on many states in the South. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are affected by this disaster. The people of Montana are generous and compassionate people who are ready to help their neighbors in time of need. A financial gift to the Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide food, shelter, counseling and other assistance to thousands of disaster victims across the country each year. Financial gifts can make a difference in the lives of people who depend on the Red Cross after a large disaster like Hurricane Katrina or the people affected everyday by single-family fires. The American Red Cross is launching the largest mobilization of resources for a single natural disaster involving thousands of trained disaster relief workers, tons of supplies and shoulders to lean on. The Red Cross has provided a safe haven for nearly 40,000 evacuees in more than 230 Red Cross shelters to date. More than 1,900 Red Cross workers, most of whom are volunteers, are being recruited to assist in this relief effort. Nearly forty Montanans, who are trained and certified Red Cross volunteers, have already been sent by the Red Cross to help with efforts in the south. Information about how to volunteer and be trained will be provided by the Red Cross. To make a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund, please call 1-800-HELP-NOW or visit the Red Cross Web site at www.redcross.org. Related News Releases
