Governor Bullock Signs Bill to Expand Montana Microbreweries

Governor Steve Bullock today held a ceremonial bill signing in Missoula to highlight legislation that will raise the production cap on Montana’s microbreweries.

“Even more than taps and great beers, our breweries employ our fellow Montanans, buy products from our farmers, and help grow Main Street Montana,” said Governor Bullock. “This legislation is a good thing for the industry and for our economy, as well as for Montana craft beer lovers like myself.”

Governor Bullock joined Representative Adam Hertz and Representative Ellie Hill at Bayern Brewery, the oldest microbrewery operating in Montana, to highlight HB 541 which will raise the current production cap for Montana’s microbreweries from 10,000 barrels to 60,000 barrels.

The passage of HB 541 will help Montana brewers to boost economic output, create more jobs, and compete in the regional marketplace. There are currently over 68 Montana breweries in 35 communities across the state that employ over 700 employees directly. At over $100 million in economic output, Montana breweries are projected to produce nearly 200,000 barrels this year, more than double the rate brewed in Montana in 2010.
