HELENA—Today, Governor Steve Bullock and Department of Administration Director Sheila Hogan presented the 2016 Governor’s Awards for Excellence to state employees. These awards go to employees from across the state who have gone above and beyond to serve the people of Montana.

Montanans should be proud of each of these individuals for their incredible commitment to serving the people of our state over the last year,” said Governor Steve Bullock. “They have worked hard to make health care more accessible, to grow our business community and create jobs through the Business Navigator, and to make state government more efficient to taxpayers.

Recipients of the awards range from teams with a singular mission to individuals who enhanced the workings of state government and implement cost-saving measures. Examples include:

  • The Medicaid Expansion Team, for implementing program and IT changes in a short period of time, bringing access to health care coverage to more than 49,000 low-income Montanans.
  • Business Navigator Team, for creating an online centralized resource for Montanans across the state to start and grow their businesses.
  • Region 6 Public Defender Team, from offices in Havre and Glasgow, for their innovative and cost-saving measures to shift to a paper-free office and use technology to enhance representation in remote locations, which allowed them to handle a 10 percent caseload increase.
  • Education Talent Pipeline Reports Team, for their Main Street Montana Project initiative that analyzed the supply and demand for workers in Montana and evaluated workforce outcomes, resulting in forward-looking and well-received presentations across the state.
  • Individual awards: examples include providing support to local communities regarding their water system infrastructure (Kari Smith, DEQ), ensuring Montanans are protected in the health insurance marketplace (Christina Goe, State Auditor’s Office), and serving students and families at the Deaf and blind school by helping students increase their independence skills (Geri Darko, Montana School for the Deaf and Blind), among many more.

“These individuals and teams represent the highest caliber of dedication,” said Department of Administration Director Sheila Hogan. “They work hard to make Montana a better place for all of us and we are extremely thankful for that commitment.”
