Governor Steve Bullock today addressed public employees and educators and discussed the status of his legislative priorities during the MEA-MFT Representative Assembly.

We have difficult budget decisions before us at the legislature, but that does not mean we shouldn’t continue to ensure education remains a priority in our state,” said Governor Bullock. “Investments in our children today will set the stage for a prosperous Montana for generations to come.

Governor Bullock highlighted education successes in the state and called for legislators to fully restore higher education budget cuts, and focus on funding essential services and making investments in Montana’s future workforce. He called on the legislature to consider fair and modest revenue enhancers that level the playing field for hard-working Montanans.

He also noted the failure of Republicans in the legislature to invest in early childhood education and make Montana one of the last states to invest in publicly funded preschool.

Educating four-year-olds is not a partisan issue elsewhere, and it shouldn’t be here,” said Governor Bullock. But we will not stop trying. Not until every kid in Montana has that same opportunity to enter kindergarten ready to learn.

Governor Bullock also thanked the public employees and educators for their important work with providing opportunities to Montana students.

Montanans are truly thankful for all the opportunities that our public schools provide to students who may not have otherwise. Your service to our students and our state makes an incredible difference,” Bullock said.
