HELENA, Mont. – Montana Governor Steve Bullock today highlighted a report that ranks Montana as the state with the third lowest tax rates in the nation.
“This ranking confirms what we already know,” said Governor Bullock. “Montana is experiencing tremendous economic growth in industries across the state and it’s important that we keep making responsible financial decisions. Our tax system is just another reason why Montana remains the best place in the country to live, work, raise a family, or start a business.”
Analysts from the leading personal finance outlet WalletHub.com compared tax rates among the 50 states and District of Columbia in terms of the national average consumer’s income and spending habits.
“The average Montanan’s Annual Effective State & Local Tax Rate is 6.92 percent,” said Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub Analyst. “For comparison’s sake, ten states have more than double that rate, and the vast majority of states are at least over 10 percent.”
