Governor Bullock Creates Future Ready Cabinet

Future Ready MT Cabinet to unite talent pipeline efforts and build trained workforce

Governor Steve Bullock today signed an executive order creating the Future Ready MT Cabinet to coordinate education and workforce initiatives to ensure that Montana residents are prepared for the jobs of today and of the future and that Montana employers can fill their workforce needs.

“The key to continued economic growth and prosperity is the availability of a talented and trained workforce,” said Governor Bullock. “We have an incredible opportunity here in Montana to unite our talent pipeline efforts. Working with employers and other stakeholders, we will ensure that we have a well-trained workforce for today and tomorrow.”

In 2013, Montana set a goal that 60 percent of adults have a post-secondary degree or credential by 2025. The Future Ready MT Cabinet will unify the administration’s education and workforce initiatives to build on current efforts to strengthen Montana’s talent pipeline and ensure Montana workers have clear pathways to good-paying jobs.

The Cabinet will revisit Montana’s attainment goals, define specific strategies for the state to implement in partnership with employers and other stakeholders, and recommend policy solutions to Governor Bullock for consideration for the 2019 Biennial Budget proposal.

Governor Bullock shall serve as chair of the Cabinet. The Cabinet shall be comprised of 8 additional members, including:

  • Lieutenant Governor
  • Commissioner of the Department of Labor and Industry
  • Director of the Department of Commerce
  • Director of the Department of Public Health and Human Services
  • Adjutant General of the National Guard
  • Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction
  • Commissioner of Higher Education

Over the last five years, Governor Bullock’s Main Street Montana Project has built robust partnerships across education, labor, the private sector and both state and local partners to strengthen talent pipelines. Apprenticeships have nearly doubled since 2011 and two-year colleges in the Montana University System are partnering with employers and the Registered Apprenticeship Program to develop customized apprenticeships connected to academic credit.
