HELENA – Governor Steve Bullock today announced the launch of the Main Street Montana Project Peer-to-Peer Symposium series to be held across the state for business owners and investors to exchange ideas and learn from other industry professionals. Since the Project’s inception, business leaders have cited the need for more networking opportunities in Montana to share knowledge, experience and best practices.

“The Main Street Montana Project continues to tap into the knowledge and experience of industry leaders across the state,” said Bullock. “These peer-driven symposiums are another opportunity for business leaders to hear from others in their fields and apply what they learn for their companies.”

The first symposium will be held October 11th & 12th in Bozeman at the Montana State University Student Union Building and will focus on workforce development. The keynote speaker will be Jenette Ramos, Vice President and General Manager at Boeing Fabrication, the world’s largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems.

“With an aging workforce and low unemployment, one of our greatest responsibilities is ensuring we are developing a workforce with the knowledge, skills and experience to continue to move our state’s economy forward,” said Montana Labor Commissioner, Pam Bucy. “Jenette Ramos has established her career on building strong workforces. We are thrilled she is going to speak with our attendees about her experiences and how those strategies can be applied in Montana.”

Bullock launched the Main Street Montana Project in 2013, and tapped two of Montana’s most respected and accomplished business leaders: Larry Simkins, CEO of the Washington Companies, and Bill Johnstone, CEO of D.A. Davidson Companies to lead the effort.

The Main Street Montana Project is a dynamic and ongoing process identified by the five major pillars on which the plan is built:

  • Train and Educate Tomorrow’s Workforce Today
  • Create a Climate that Attracts, Retains and Grows Businesses
  • Build Upon Montana’s Economic Foundation
  • Market Montana
  • Nurture Emerging Industries and Encourage Innovation

“Montana continues to be a national leader in job and wage growth,” said Bullock. “These symposiums are going to give Montana’s business leaders the chance to work with each other to exchange ideas about what is working for their companies. In addition, having representatives share insights about their industry leading organizations will stimulate new ideas for employers who attend.”

Additional symposiums will focus on innovation and marketing Montana.
