Helena, Mont. – Governor Steve Bullock and the Equal Pay for Equal Work Task Force today announced Dr. Jennifer Welter, the first female to coach in the National Football League, will be the keynote speaker at the 2016 Equal Pay Summit, hosted by Montana State University-Bozeman on May 2-3 in the Strand Union Building.
Montana leaders from the public and private sector, Governor Bullock, and Equal Pay for Equal Work Task Force Co-Chairs Pam Bucy and Sheila Hogan will also speak.
“I’m excited to welcome Dr. Welter to Montana as we continue our fight to ensure women in our state earn equal pay for equal work,” said Bullock. “This year’s Summit will focus on women in business on Main Streets all across Montana, and how we can achieve equal pay by promoting leadership, support, pay equity education, and access to critical resources in our state.”
The Equal Pay for Equal Work Task Force will host a Wage$mart negotiation training the afternoon of May 2nd and an opening reception and remarks that evening. May 3rd events include panels and speakers on closing the pay gap, best business practices, growing and starting a business, and resources for business development. The Summit will also provide the latest data, research, and resources on fair pay issues in Montana.

This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Jennifer Welter, was recognized as Sports Pioneer of the Year at the United Nations Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and named by ESPNW as one of the 25 most influential women in sports in 2015. Widely known as a trailblazer and pioneer in professional football, she has 18 years of experience in fitness, working with professional athletes and providing expert advice. Welter holds a doctorate degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Sport Psychology, and a Bachelor’s degree from Boston College.
The Equal Pay for Equal Work Task Force was established by Governor Steve Bullock in 2013 to gather information, furnish advice, and provide the Governor recommendations on policies and actions to ensure that Montana workers earn equal pay for equal work, regardless of gender.
